Are you also waiting for Diwali with as much gusto as I am?

We Indians direly wait for festivals and celebrations because we can finally dress up in our beautiful traditional clothes and put on some extra fats and calories. Diwali is inevitably my favourite festival. I love everything about it, the lights, the beautiful decorations, the OH! so yummy sweets and savouries, the many gifts that I get to get, and most of all, getting to meet my cousins and friends.

As a kid I waited for Diwali more than anybody in the house. Every year my father would specially choose and get our Diwali dresses, and I could never keep a calm until I saw it. Of course that time I did not have a phone to ask my dad to send me a picture. It was a different kind of excitement and aching in my stomach. And as time passed, like every other teenager, my fathers choice in clothes did not appease mine. I started building my own choice, I wanted to wear the dresses I saw in the typical bollywood films. Then for a month I would mire my mother to get the same dress stitched and it never turned out be the same. But now things are different, I somehow manage to get the perfect Diwali outfit, and that's what makes me love the festival even more.

But this festive season is beyond traditionals, its about keeping it real! its about going beyond the cliche lehengas. Its about being edgy and elegant at the same time. This season try trends like the cold shoulder or off shoulder choli, the satin dhotis, ruffles, skater cholis, the saree gown, dull florals or the dark silk lehengas. Avoid silhouettes that have a lot of stone and crystal work, go for embroidery, self work, play with prints and textures ( go MASABA!).

A few tips for the season would be- go for heavy and defined earring instead of neck pieces, let your neck be bare. secondly go for the golden glow makeup look, it gets the perfect shine for the season. Try keeping your hair neat instead of gowing for the messy looks. and lastly wear what defines you, your colour, weight, body type should not stop you from being yourself.

With the endless amount of invites, you need be prepared before hand with the best of outfits.

Here are some of my favourite looks for this festive season-

1). Flaunt those cuts, and keep the rest of your outfit simple and sleek. (Anarkali from the "Little Black Bow")

2). Capes give a very elegant and feminine look but ensure making a fashion statement. (A piece from the Manish Malhotra W/F collection.

3). Skater cholis give a very edgy touch to your cliche lehenga. ( A Tarun Tahiliani piece )

4) This ARPITA MEHTA piece is my absolute favourite. Dhoti with long jackets will add newness to your festive fashion.

5). Sabyasachi and florals go hand in hand. A balance of colours in your outfit makes a huge difference.

6). Payal Khandawala has redefined silk lehengas! theses are absolute master pieces.

7). Dull florals are one of my favourites. try keeping the base bright or either the flowers bright.

8). This Pernia Qureshi lace sari is one of its own kind. So delicate, something I'd choose over the regular festive wears.

9). Off shoulder Choli is the biggest and the favourite trend of designers this season.

10). Pastel hues for the people who want to go for more simple yet delicate looks.

11). Try new colours this season. Move away from the usual pink and orange shades. This maroon piece from RIDHI MEHRA is surely in my bucket list.

12). MASABA!

13). MASABA!

14). MASABA is my favourite designer. The way she plays with prints has always captivated me. Just look at theses amazing pieces from her latest collection.

I hope this will help you choose the utopian outfit that you've been looking for and has lessened the tension of "what do I wear?". I hope you have a safe and fun filled Diwali and I hope you rock in whatever you wear. Just one more thing, go minimalistic, don't over do anything and I'm sure you'll look your perfect self.

Hope you liked the article!
