Are you agog to know about the current fashion trends? Do you have an eye for style? Do you have the drive and desire to turn your passion into a rewarding career? A career in the fashion industry may be the right path for you!

When most people think about a fashion career, they picture a designer sketching an idea for a new dress, or a model walking down a runway to show off the latest design. Well, the fashion industry wouldn't exist without the designers or models, of course, but there are also a number of other fashion careers that people might forget about.

Like they say, do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. If you have the fire within you to do everything fashion and it captivates you like nothing else does, GO FOR IT!

The fashion industry encompasses of a wide array of careers. If asked, I mow down fashion careers into three broad denominations, that is,

a). Fashion design

b). Fashion business

c). Fashion media

The design field includes jobs such as designers, pattern makers, textile designers and sketching assistants, apparel workers, dressmakers, tailors, who design and produce the accessories and garments. The business field includes marketers, buyers, merchandise planners, fashion technology, sales manager, fashion management, and retail managers who look after the business side of fashion. Fashion media includes photographers, stylists, fashion journalism, creative directors, editors who help a designer present and sell accessories and garments to a retailer.

Here is a chronicle of the various careers you can consider if you dream of working at Chanel or maybe Prada! haha!

1). FASHION DESIGNER- Includes:

  • Clothing Design: Clothing design, also sometimes known as garment design or apparel design, is a fashion specialty in which a fashion professional designs, produces, and/or sells the garments

  • Bridal Design: Bridal design is a fashion specialty in which a fashion professional typically creates formal wedding gowns, veils, and other similar wedding accessories and garments.

  • Accessory Design: Accessory design is a fashion specialty in which a fashion professional designs, produces, and/or sells the objects that people wear with their garments.

  • Costume Design: Costume design is a fashion specialty in which a fashion professional designs, produces, and/or clothing that actors wear in movies, plays, television shows, or other theatrical productions.

  • Custom Design: Custom design, also sometimes known as custom accessory design or custom garment design, is a fashion specialty in which a fashion professional alters, designs, and/or produces an accessory or garment for a specific individual.

  • Footwear Design: Footwear design is a fashion specialty in which a fashion professional designs, produces, and/or sells the items that people wear on their feet.

  • Historical Design: Historical design is a fashion specialty in which a fashion professional designs, preserves, re-creates, and/or sells designs from other time periods.

  • Fabric Design: Fabric design, also sometimes known as textile design, is a fashion specialty in which a fashion professional designs, produces, and/or sells the actual raw materials that other fashion professionals use to design and produce accessories and garments.

2). FASHION MARKETING- One of the less glamorous, but still important, fashion careers you can pursue is that of a marketer. A fashion marketer creates advertising campaigns and/or marketing plans that an individual or company can use to sell its products. Fashion marketers are responsible for making sure that each accessory and garment is presented to the retailers or consumers in the best way possible.

3). HAIR AND MAKEUP ARTIST FOR FASHION- Styling the hair and faces of models for fashion shoots and ramp walks.

4). FASHION PSYCHOLOGIST - Deals with consumer behavior making fashion consumers the center of attraction.

5). FASHION BLOGGER - One of the most popular fields of fashion currently. Involves acquainting people to new trends, style inspirations and fashion experiences.

6). FASHION JOURNALIST- A rendezvous of your love for writing and interest in fashion. You can be the next Anna Wintour!

7). BUYERS- One career in fashion with a lot of influence is that of a buyer. A fashion buyer, also sometimes known as a fashion purchasing agent or a fashion merchandise manager, locates and purchases the accessories, garments, and supplies that a fashion design company or a retail store needs to operate.

8). FASHION DIRECTORS- Behind the collections that parade down the runway and fly off of store shelves are teams of men and women who create each masterpiece. And leading each team is a creative director who brings a vision and execution as only he or she could.

Karl Lagerfeld? Alexander Wang?

9). FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER- A fashion photographer, also sometimes known as a commercial photographer, takes pictures of the garments and/or accessories that an individual or company designs, as well as pictures of the models wearing those garments and accessories.

Or lastly you could just be the CEO of a fashion brand? A long journey but I'm sure you'll make it!

I hope you liked the article.

Your feedbacks are always welcomed!

Thank you.

Love,

Sakshi
